Yorkshire Nations Cup 2009 - Post press release
The Yorkshire Nations Cup 2009.

Date: Friday 19th June 2009 - 9pm.

Venue: Beverley Polo Club, East Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire Nations Cup was all about glamour this year as the guests, players and ponies headed into the arena for the 3rd year running to compete in Yorkshire's premier International polo fixture. The match itself was between two time Nations Cup winners Argentina and their opponents Yorkshire. Tailored dinners suits blended with fabulous full length dresses as the assembled crowd of close to 300 VIP guests enjoyed perfectly chilled champagne before taking their seats for dinner which began with a exclusive beer and food matching presentation by Neil Morrissey (Men Behaving Badly) and his brewing partner in crime celebrity chef Richard Fox.

Neil and Richard introduced their celebrity beer Morrisey Fox Blonde which with its citrus fruit flavours and smooth finish accompanied the salmon starter perfectly. Neil and Richard entertained the guests with stories from their own channel 4 program Risky Business where they created their own beer and microbrewery. With plenty of complimentary bottles on the tables and unique Morrissey Fox glasses everyone had a great opportunity to sample the celebrity beer.

After dinner Neil and Richard invited guests to take up their viewing positions for what would be a high octane spectacle and the anticipation built with a breathtaking pre-match lighting display, straight from a rock concert which kicked off the match. Argentina, sponsored by Lapicida, fielded an extremely strong side and as expected their Maestro Hugo Suarez was at the centre of everything in the opening section of the match. Things looked ominous for Peter Crawford’s Yorkshire side, who this year sported their new shirts sponsored by Teckno Solutions. The Yorkshire Team captained by 3 goal player Peter Crawford consisted of Abigail Foreman aged 18 and her brother Ashley Foreman who is a mere 15 years old. Children to Andrew Foreman owner of Beverley Polo Club, they displayed an inspiring form of grit and determination forcing team Argentina to work for every goal. It was neck and neck stuff and undoubtedly lived up to its billing as the ultimate evening’s entertainment for all those lucky enough to be part of it. With one final surge in the last chukka Argentina did what they seem to do best and snatched victory away from the home side. With the players brought into the presentation podium to a fanfare of music and lights on the back of two stunning open top BMW’s, provided by sponsors Stratstone BMW Hull, the silverware was handed to the Argentine captain and the real party began.

With everyone enjoying the band and dancing well into the early hours of the next morning the new format for this spectacular event looks set to stay as the event organisers plan for 2010 and decide exactly how to consolidate their position as 'Yorkshire's social event of the year'.

Neil Morrissey and Richard Fox prior to the Yorkshire Nations Cup were introduced to polo with a private lesson by owner Andrew Foreman and the Beverley Polo Club resident instructor George Carter. Richard and Neil after grabbing a Morrissey Fox beer said ‘They are hooked on polo and could not wait to get back in the saddle!’ So if you fancy a go at polo all you have to do is call Beverley Polo Club office and book a lesson, you never know you may even face the likes of Neil and Richard in a friendly chukka down at the club!

Result: Argentina (Sponsored by Lapicida) 8 v Yorkshire (Sponsored by Teckno Solutions)
